PSV Farewell to being unbeaten

[ 2010.03.08. ]

PSV’s unbeaten series has come to an end when NAC defeated them 2-1 in Breda. Balázs played all along, and although he played well, he did not manage to score.

Fred Rutten fielded a slightly changed starting eleven: Jagos Vukovic played instead of Erik Pieters who is still injured, and Nordin Amrabat and Danny Koevermans were also given a chance in the starting line-up. Balázs did not face his fellow countryman in NAC Breda in the end, as Csaba Fehér was suspended from the game. The match started with great intensity, there were many chances in front of both goals. Dzsudzsák had his first chance from within the penalty box after a corner-variation, but his shot was saved by the keeper. Then his cross from the left almost fell into the far corner – almost. Between these two actions Orlando Engelaar got PSV the leading goal with a superb run, but Breda evened the score soon – PSV’s defence on the left were not doing very well.
The second half did not bring much change, both teams fought to win. Balázs had a free kick 30 meters from the goal in the 51st minute, but although his shot went past the wall, it was caught by the goalie. In the 72nd minute Dick Marcellis tripped over his own foot and lost his balance, allowing Robbert Schilder to score Breda’s second goal. Eight minutes later Ola Toivonen was clearly faulted by NAC’s goalkeeper, but his penalty claim was turned down by the referee. Dzsudzsák had a chance to equalize in the finish, but he missed the goal with his free kick from 22 meters, so PSV suffered their first championship defeat in the season.
