PSV A rested Balázs against Alkmaar

[ 2010.08.22. ]

PSV received Alkmaar after a tiring journey home following a lost game in Novosibirsk. Nevertheless, they won another game, securing their leading position further.

Having been suspended, Balázs was one of the well-rested players against Alkmaar and it showed too. He was most active in the first half, but to no end, his crosses and run-downs were fruitless, his teammates were either too slow to reach them or too weak to score. In the 39th minute he tried to finish off an action himself, but the visitors saved the situation just before the goal-line. The leading goal was brought about by the teamwork of Ola Toivonen and Marcus Berg in the end, with Berg in the scoring position.
PSV had a very strong start in the second half, but they could not increase their lead for a while. Alkmaar equalized with Erik Falkenburg’s headed goal, but they could not rejoice for long, as Berg scored again after Jeremain Lens’ excellent cross, and in the finish fresh sub Afellay secured PSV’s victory with a third goal.
